During World War II, US Navy divers played a crucial role in underwater inspection, repair, and salvage operations. Among their equipment, the iconic Divinhood Style 3 shallow-water diving helmet stood out for its innovative design and functionality. Its large front and oval top windows ensured excellent visibility and maneuverability, while the comfortable fit and tilting headpiece facilitated tasks like working on ship bottoms. Despite being the last model produced by Miller Dunn before their post-war closure, the Divinhood Style 3 left a lasting legacy as the pinnacle of shallow-water helmet design.

This magnificent original example represents a late-war Divinhood Style 3, distinguished by its round head screws securing the window guards. A unique feature is the US Government serial number "1062" stamped on the right side of the window frame, marking its official inventory status. Remarkably, the helmet retains its original lead weights and hardware, although the back weight's wing nuts lack one ear each. Though the top viewing port carries a stable crack, the glass remains intact throughout. Minor dents pepper the helmet's top, with a single larger dent at the upper back. Despite these traces of its active past, this helmet exudes a captivating time capsule feel, evoking its likely wartime service and subsequent careful preservation. Its rich, dark brown patina whispers of countless underwater adventures, inviting a closer look into this piece of diving history.

All diving helmets sold by Nation’s Attic will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Nations Attic. The certificate will have a unique number that will match the number on a tamperproof hologram decal placed inside the helmet. This information will be kept on permanent file at the Nations Attic and help ensure the provenance of the helmet and authenticity.
