Of the eight different stamped manufacturers of USN dive knives made during World War 2, the Batteryless Telephone Equipment Co (BTE) knife is one of the most difficult to find. Located in Pittsburg, PA, BTE made a larger number of components for the Mark V diver. Their most notable part is the exhaust valve, clearly marked on most Mark V helmets.

This example likely saw plenty of action during World War 2. The brass sheath features typical scrapes and marks from use. The BTE stamping is clear and legible on the sheath. The knife blade also shows signs of plenty of use but not abuse. The wood handle has a rich patina with some loss of wood near the base. These visual signs of use give this rare knife a certain swagger of "been there and done that". It would also look great next to a well-used Mark V helmet.
