Starting in the mid-1980s the USN replaced the famed Mark V helmet with the fiberglass Mark 12. This model was utilized for a relatively short time and then replaced. Love them or hate them, they are a piece of USN diving history. Once the Mark 12’s were fazed out, they went into US Navy storage. The decision was made to sell their stockpile in the early 2000s as used surplus, with the caveat they were to be physically decommissioned by bending the neck ring.
This relatively early example from December 1979 has received the decommissioning treatment. Please review the photos for condition specifics. All Mark 12 helmets were made by Morse Diving Equipment in Boston, MA. This one is serial # 109.
With the value rising quickly on these helmets, now is the time to pick one up!
