Classic design and historical importance are hallmarks of helmets made by Siebe Gorman. This classic 12 bolt 3 light design likely dating to before World War 2. Siebe Gorman started making the first diving helmets in the 1830s in London, England. The company would continue to invent innovative new designs and technology in diving. Their helmets would be used by the Royal Navy and her many colonies throughout the 19th and 20th Centuries.
A very important factor for Siebe Gorman helmets is their serial numbers. This wonderful example is serial number matching in all seven locations! The matching number can be found on the faceplate, inside of the breastplate neck ring, inside of the bonnet neck ring, on the bottom side of all four brails. The serial number is 10420.
This helmet features all the classic design cues plus a couple of additional features. All twelve of the wing nuts are intact along with one extra. The air-fitting elbow has a brass hose fitting threaded to it which can be retained or removed easily. An additional elbow fitting has been installed on the back of the bonnet. Long ago it appears the factory removed a communications fitting. The factory-applied castellation patch is evident on the back. The castellation or castling is also an impressive detail on the very top of the bonnet and going down the back as soon in the photos.
The helmet is in very nice original condition. The copper body and brass hardware are easily distinguishable and exhibit a nice color. The helmet is complete with all its glass, Numerous signs of use via small working dents on the bonnet give this helmet a look and feel that could never be obtained artificially.
All helmets sold by Nations Attic Inc. will have a certificate of authenticity (COA). This COA will have a serial # on it that will match the # on a tamperproof holographic decal placed on the inside of the helmet. This level of security and long-term assurance of the helmet’s authenticity is unmatched in the industry and very important to us.
