Starting in the 1940s, Diving Equipment & Salvage Company (DESCO) recognized the need to offer a high-quality shallow water diving helmet. The result was this impressive copper and brass hat that is nearly indestructible!
While the occasional need for a shallow water helmet would present itself, production of this helmet has been very low over the decades. It is so low, in fact, that this is the first one we have ever offered for sale.
The unique design of this helmet features a copper upper half and a brass lower half. A single large window, brass carry handle, two lead weights, and an air inlet elbow constitute its features. The lead weights are stamped with the DESCO model number, front and or back, and a small image of a DESCO diving helmet.
This helmet does have a Morse Diving non-return valve installed. The internal air vent is present. The four original Mark V flanged wing nuts holding the lead weights are intact. We are unsure of the vintage of this helmet, but judging from its patina, it has been around for many decades. There are no notable dents or scratches, and the polycarbonate window is in excellent condition.
If you have been looking for a unique helmet or have a shallow water helmet collection, this one will make a great addition to any collection!
All helmets sold by Nations Attic Inc. will have a certificate of authenticity (COA). This COA will have a serial # on it that will match the # on a tamperproof holographic decal placed on the inside of the helmet. This level of security and long-term assurance of the helmet’s authenticity is unmatched in the industry and very important to us.
