The 1917 AJ Morse catalog showcases three distinct knives, including the "Standard United States Navy Knife." The 1916 US Navy diving manual depicts and details the contemporary knife used by divers, a friction-style knife identical to the one featured in the AJ Morse catalog.

Presented here is an authentic and highly sought-after early 20th-century United States Navy knife manufactured by AJ Morse & Son Inc. While the blade and sheath lack any markings or stamps, AJ Morse's knives from this era typically exhibit the brass pommel style seen on this example. Schrader knives of the same period, in contrast, featured rounded ends with a slot for a flat-blade screwdriver.

As illustrated in the accompanying photographs, the knife is in remarkably fine original condition. The wooden handle is pristine, the brass hardware is complete and intact, and the blade remains in excellent condition for a piece over a century old.
