This is a fantastic opportunity to restore a classic antique American dive pump!
Just discovered is this seldom-seen A.J. Morse & Son divers compressor or air pump. This pump was originally shipped from the Boston factory to U.S. Engineers in Wilmington, Delaware on August 29th, 1914. On the back of the lid small letters U.S.E.D are burnt into the wood. Undoubtedly the pump was used on construction jobs in the area for years. Some time afterward, the pump was sent to Wisconsin, where it was used and stored for many decades.
Approximately 20 years ago the pump was taken apart in preparation of a full restoration. Sadly the owner passed away, never starting the restoration of any part of the pump. The pump was just recently discovered by Nations Attic in the disassembled state shown in the photos.
We did lay out all the parts and tried to photograph everything. A majority of the very small parts, such as screws, are in containers. It does appear all the major components are intact, including the cast iron wheels, handles, main pump, gauge, brass trim, wood cabinet, and lid. The only part we did not locate is the angled metal corner cabinet pieces, which luckily can be made relatively easily.
The model No. 2 is a single diver pump, making it somewhat smaller and lighter than others. Pumps like this are very impressive display pieces and look great with a helmet on top.
Restoring these pumps is a lot of fun. Bringing out the rich wood grain of the cabinet and making all the parts shine again is quite rewarding. With the pump completely taken apart, it is also quite easy to move!
The pump is located at our facility in Wichita, KS. It can of course be picked up. We can also secure the pump to a pallet and ship it via FedEx Freight. We would need a postal code and a few more details to provide you with a quote.
