Commonly known as DESCO, the company was initially called Diving Equipment & Salvage Company. During World War 2 the company slightly changed its name to Diving Equipment & Supply Company (DESCO). DESCO started in 1937 and produced some innovative diving helmets and equipment. During World War II DESCO won a contract to produce the Mark V diving helmet for the US Navy. Diving Equipment & Salvage Co and later Diving Equipment and Supply Co would go on to be a major supplier of the Mark V during and after WWII. DESCO also made the mixed gas Mark V and various helmets for commercial use. Sponge diving, nuclear reactor diving and general underwater construction were areas that specific helmets were custom made. DESCO is still in business today! If you have a helmet that was made by Diving Equipment & Supply or Salvage Company, please let us know, you might  be surprised just how much we can pay for your old hard hat!
