The Andrew J. Morse Company was manufacturing diving helmets and other equipment in Boston Massachusetts as early as 1837. At the start of the US Civil War in 1864 the company changed its name to Andrew J. Morse and Sons. The company was one of the largest manufacturers of all kinds of diving equipment. They would supply the US government with equipment in every major conflict. During both World War 1 and 2 A.J. Morse would make the US Navy Mark V. The company would continue to make the helmet between and after those wars.

Morse made a number of commercial antique diving helmets, but they are also known for their US Navy Mark V helmet. The ID plate on these reads United States Navy Diving Helmet; Mark V; Mod-1. The serial number and date will be on the next line. Morse Diving Equipment Co, Inc; the last line on the tag is Boston, MASS, USA. Other Mark V’s made by Morse have a brass tag that looks like the second example below. Morse manufactured the Mark V from 1916 well into the 21st Century. A large majority of these helmets found today date to 1942 to 1945. Regardless of the age or condition, we are very strong buyers of these old helmets!
